Issue 002: same machine, two numbers

Stahls rates its Carousel at up to 300 garments an hour on its own page and 300 to 400 on the stand. Issue 002 reads every number that way, in nine sections.

Stahls' Hotronix Carousel is rated at up to 300 garments an hour on its own product page. On the stand at PRINTING United it was quoted at 300 to 400. Both numbers are about one machine, and only one of them is in writing. Issue 002 of NozzleCheck reads every figure from the autumn the same way: what it counts, and whose page says it.

Nine sections

PRINTING United: what was new. 27,000 registered attendees on the organiser's preliminary count, against more than 30,000 a year earlier. Most speeds came as "up to" with no method, and for apparel the press, not the printer, was the story.

Print cost and wash life. Ink cost, cure time and wash life come from the people who sell the ink, in different units and with no stated method. Set side by side, they overlap, contradict each other or answer different questions.

What certificates actually cover. Roland DG's inks were certified in 2020 and Brother's in 2018. Neither certificate covers a printer or a finished shirt.

AI, copyright and the upload warranty. What the US Copyright Office will not register, and how differently each platform words the rights promise a seller signs on upload.

Embroidery and colour. One embroidery machine, three top speeds depending on the frame, and thread that can cap all of them.

Regulation: what applies now. The EU's rules on environmental claims apply from 27 September 2026, while most of the countries one law firm tracks have not written them into national law.

Market and the factory floor. A folding machine rated at 700 an hour, advertised at 800. A 25% apparel return rate beside 35 to 45% on the same page.

Events and reference. The Print Show's 12% rise in attendance is 4% before one adjustment. Impressions Expo Dallas (21 to 23 October) comes after this issue and goes into Pulse. Then the calendar to 2028.

The overview says what the issue covers and what it leaves out. Issue 001, from August, is still where it was.
